From San Anton'

It turns out there is internet in the hotel that doesn't require a laptop! Yay! What better way to spend my break? (Though I haven't been able to get my webmail to work...)

I'm having a pretty good time, all things considered. Yesterday was horribly long (especially after 4.5 hours' sleep the night before) but I made it in one piece. My hotel room is nice, and doesn't smell too bad. (I was worried that I might be allergic to the laundry soap or somesuch.) I have two beds to choose from, with a total of 8 pillows, not including the one I brought. I haven't turned the TV on yet, and I can see the river from my room. (There was even a dead fish in the water today!)

Yesterday evening there was a meet-n-greet cocktail reception and I didn't know anyone (with one notable exception - VLGC's former director, with whom I have a kind of strange relationship) and I felt all shy. Eventually, though, I met some folks, and ended up having yummy Mexican food for dinner with a lovely couple of guys from Oklahoma City. They were really sweet and even bought my dinner and we talked choir pretty much the whole time.

I'm enjoying hearing about what other directors are dealing with and getting ideas and such. it's kind of weird though - in our group of 25 directors, I think there are 5 women. And some of the issues that come up in the really huge groups who have 100+ members and paid staff are just different from what I deal with. I miss my sweetie and my puppy and will be glad to get back to them, but still, it was totally worth coming.

I met the director of the Seattle Women's Chorus (and Men's, too, I think) and he's really sweet and must be someobody's favourite uncle (or grandfather?). He invited me to come down and look through their library sometime, which would rock.

Now that I know this is here, I'll check in again. :)
